Why Supplements Alone Won’t Save You

Updated: Aug 6, 2025

Let’s talk about something I see all the time:You get a diagnosis, see a practitioner (maybe even a well-meaning functional one), and walk away with a mile-long list of supplements.

Binders, detox kits, mitochondrial boosters, antifungals, enzymes, adaptogens, minerals, probiotics, liver support…

Don’t get me wrong—some of those tools have their place. I use them strategically with clients. But here’s the deal:

👉 If supplements are your only healing strategy, you’re missing the foundation.

Because your body doesn’t heal in a bottle.

It heals through daily inputs—especially food.

When you’re dealing with mold toxicity or chronic inflammation, your detox pathways are likely overwhelmed, not just under-supplemented. You don’t need to throw 20 more things at your liver—you need to give it the tools it’s designed to use.

That’s where food comes in.

At Root Level Living, we start with what I call the healing plate—simple foods that speak your body’s language, support bile flow, feed the microbiome, and help bind + escort toxins out.

Here are the foods I swear by in mold recovery and whole-body healing:

🧄 Garlic – One of nature’s most powerful antifungals and immune supporters. Let it sit 10 minutes after chopping to activate allicin (its active compound).

🥬 Cruciferous veggies – Think arugula, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale. These help open up your liver’s Phase 2 detox pathways so you can actually clear toxins—not just stir them up.

🫘 Beans + lentils – Yes, I said it. Fiber-rich, mineral-rich, and incredibly helpful at binding mycotoxins in the gut so they don’t get reabsorbed.

🥚 Protein with every meal – Your liver needs amino acids to do its job. Skipping protein is like trying to build a house with no bricks.

🧂 Trace minerals + hydration – Detox only works if things are flowing. I love adding a pinch of sea salt or trace mineral drops to filtered water to replenish and mobilize.

🧈 Healthy fats – Grass-fed butter, olive oil, avocado, ghee—these fats help carry fat-soluble toxins (like mold mycotoxins) out of your system.

You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to buy $400 worth of powders.

You need nourishment that speaks to your body’s design.

So yes—keep the supplements that support your process. But don’t forget the real medicine happens at the root: your nervous system, your food, your environment.

And it’s not just about detox. It’s about rebuilding—meal by meal, breath by breath, bite by nourishing bite.
